Tramway-oriented development: what results in what context? Comparative approach between France and the Czech Republic

This paper explores tramway-oriented development within two different cultures, France and the Czech Republic, which nevertheless have significant factors in common with regard to the goal of promoting the modal share of mass transit from a sustainable development perspective. Besides the basic urban variables, such as density and mixity, our work attempts to explore characteristics of pedestrian access to transit stations at neighbourhood scale. The strengths and weaknesses on each side and the potential for transfer of “bestpractices” are further considered.
